iProtect TSCM Kit: Professional Portable Detection Kit by DigiScan Labs

The iProtect TSCM Kit from Digiscan Labs combines three counter-surveillance detectors in one transport case: the iProtect 1216 3-band RF detector (50 MHz to 12 GHz), the iProtect 1240 5G mmWave detector (9 GHz to 44 GHz) and the WEGA-i optical hidden camera detector. Together they cover radio transmitters from analog VHF bugs to 5G millimetre-wave links, and they find camera lenses whether the camera is switched on or off.

The kit also includes a 2.4 to 2.5 GHz bandpass filter and an LPDA-12 directional antenna for the iProtect 1216 that which doesn't come with the standalone 1216. Fitted together, they suppress cellular noise below 2 GHz and extend detection range for low-power Bluetooth and BLE devices, including AirTag-type trackers.

Who This Kit Is For

Professionals: TSCM operators, executive protection teams, corporate security and law enforcement who need a portable secondary kit or a complete first kit. You get continuous RF coverage from 50 MHz to 44 GHz, a dedicated BLE detection path and optical lens detection, all in a case you can carry.

First-time buyers and in-house security: Office managers, facility managers, school and clinic administrators, and in-house security staff without TSCM training. Every device in the kit works with a bar graph and an alarm, not with a spectrum display. This is a full kit to quickly sweep a meeting room, an office or a hotel room.

What Is Inside the Case

  • iProtect 1216 3-band RF detector with rod antenna and USB charging cable
  • Bandpass filter 2.4 to 2.5 GHz for the iProtect 1216
  • LPDA-12 microwave directional antenna for the iProtect 1216
  • iProtect 1240 microwave detector with 1 AA battery
  • WEGA-i optical hidden camera detector with 2 AAA batteries
  • Transport case with foam insert

Full Frequency Coverage: 50 MHz to 44 GHz

The two RF detectors are chosen so that their ranges overlap between 9 and 12 GHz and leave no gap.

  • 50 MHz to 700 MHz (iProtect 1216, band 1): analog VHF and UHF room transmitters, older wireless microphones.
  • 700 MHz to 3 GHz (iProtect 1216, band 2): GSM, 3G, 4G, DECT, Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth and BLE. This is where most modern bugs and GSM listening devices transmit.
  • 3 GHz to 12 GHz (iProtect 1216, band 3): Wi-Fi 5 GHz and other microwave links.
  • 9 GHz to 44 GHz (iProtect 1240): 5G mmWave bands n257, n258, n260 and n261 and other high-frequency data links. Standard RF detectors stop well below this range.

Because the 1216 splits its range into three independent scales, a strong legitimate signal such as a nearby mobile mast or a Wi-Fi router only reduces sensitivity in its own band. The other two bands keep full sensitivity. On a single-band detector the same mast would mask the entire range.

Kit Components

iProtect 1216: Countersurveillance 3-Band RF Detector

The 1216 is the main tool for radio transmitters. It shows three bar graphs at once, one per band, so you see immediately which part of the spectrum is active. Two detection scales are available: modulation level for high sensitivity at longer range, and RF level for pinpointing the physical source once you are close. The alarm threshold has 48 steps and the histogram shows the last 5 seconds of signal history, which is how you catch periodic burst transmitters that only key up for a fraction of a second. Battery is a built-in 1150 mAh Li-Ion good for up to 6 hours.

Bandpass Filter 2.4 to 2.5 GHz and LPDA-12 Directional Antenna

These two accessories are the reason the kit exists as a kit. The filter is a hardware component that passes only 2.4 to 2.5 GHz and blocks everything else, above all cellular traffic below 2 GHz. With the cellular noise gone, the 1216 can run a lower trigger threshold and pick up weak Bluetooth and BLE signals it would otherwise miss. The LPDA-12 antenna has a 30 degree beamwidth, so once a signal is found you can sweep the room and follow the strongest reading to the source. In our office tests this combination is what makes the difference between hearing an AirTag somewhere in the room and locating it in a specific bag or chair.

iProtect 1240: Millimetre-Wave Microwave Detector

The 1240 covers 9 to 44 GHz, a range most RF detectors and many spectrum analysers do not reach. It rejects everything below 9 GHz, so ordinary mobile phones and Wi-Fi do not trigger it. Dual bar graphs give a detection level and a localisation level, and the built-in antenna has a 30 degree beamwidth for direction finding. It runs 10 to 20 hours on a single AA battery in Silent, Alarm or Sound mode.

WEGA-i: Optical Hidden Camera Detector

The WEGA-i does not look for radio signals at all. It sends light at the room and looks for the retroreflection that a camera lens returns, the same effect that makes a cat's eyes glow in headlights. This means it finds wired cameras, cameras that record to a memory card, and cameras that are switched off, none of which an RF detector can see. Detection distance is 2 to 10 metres. A light filter and a strobing mode help you tell a real lens from a reflection off glass, a mirror or a glossy surface.

How a First Sweep Works With This Kit

This is the order we use when we demonstrate the kit in our Rijeka office. A single meeting room takes 20 to 30 minutes the first time.

  • Prepare the room. Switch off or remove your own phones, laptops, Wi-Fi access points, DECT bases and smart speakers. Every one of them is a legitimate transmitter and will show on the 1216. Close the door.
  • RF sweep with the iProtect 1216. Start in modulation mode with the rod antenna. Walk the room slowly and watch the three bar graphs. Note where each band rises. Switch to RF level mode and move towards the strongest reading until it peaks. Check the histogram for short periodic bursts.
  • Bluetooth and tracker check. Fit the bandpass filter and the LPDA-12 antenna to the 1216. Lower the threshold. Sweep bags, coats, furniture and vehicles. Follow the antenna direction to the source.
  • High-frequency check with the iProtect 1240. Walk the same route. Because the 1240 ignores everything below 9 GHz, any reading here deserves attention.
  • Optical sweep with the WEGA-i. Dim the lights if you can. Look through the viewfinder and scan smoke detectors, clocks, power adapters, air vents, picture frames and shelving from two or three positions. A real lens keeps reflecting when you change angle; a glossy surface does not.
  • Physical check. Anything that triggered a detector gets opened or inspected. A detector tells you where to look, not what you will find.

A detector tells you that a signal or a lens is there and where it is strongest. It does not tell you what the device is. When the iProtect 1216 or the iProtect 1240 peaks on a power strip, a lamp or a chair, you open it, find the object and decide yourself whether it is a GSM bug, a Wi-Fi camera, a tracker or a legitimate device such as a smart plug. The same applies to a lens reflection found with the WEGA-i: the detector points, you inspect.

It also does not find devices that are not transmitting and have no lens: a voice recorder that stores to a memory card, a wired microphone, or a GSM bug that is switched off until it is called. For those you need a non-linear junction detector, which finds the electronics themselves, or a full physical search. Read our guide Non-linear junction detectors (NLJD) explained before deciding whether you need one; it is a different budget and a different training level.

Which iProtect Configuration Is Right for You

If your main concern is analog room bugs below 700 MHz rather than Bluetooth trackers, look at the iProtect 1216 with ODA-4 omnidirectional antenna instead. The ODA-4 boosts VHF, UHF and 315 / 433 MHz sensitivity; the kit's LPDA-12 and filter are built for 2.4 GHz. The two accessory sets solve different problems and can be combined.

For a TSCM specialist who needs to see the spectrum, identify the signal type and log a sweep, the next step in the DigiScan Labs range is the Delta X G2/12 spectrum analyzer, 0 to 12 GHz. The iProtect kit is the portable, learn-in-an-afternoon option; the Delta X is the analysis tool.

iProtect TSCM Kit FAQs

Can the kit detect an AirTag or other Bluetooth tracker?

Yes. Fit the bandpass filter and the LPDA-12 antenna to the iProtect 1216. The filter removes cellular noise so the detector can run at a lower threshold, and the directional antenna lets you follow the signal to the tracker. This works on tags in stealth mode as long as they transmit.

Will it find a camera that is switched off?

The WEGA-i will. It detects the lens optically, so power state, recording mode and transmission method do not matter. The RF detectors only see cameras while they transmit.

Do I need TSCM training to use it?

No. All three devices use bar graphs and alarms. Follow the sweep order above.

Why do I need the iProtect 1240 if the 1216 already reaches 12 GHz?

Modern 5G mmWave and some high-speed data links operate between 24 and 44 GHz. The 1216 cannot see them. The 1240 covers 9 to 44 GHz and ignores everything below, so it is a clean second opinion on the high end.

Can I carry the kit on a flight?

The devices are passive receivers and the 1216 uses a built-in Li-Ion battery below the usual airline limits. Check your airline's rules for lithium batteries before travel.

Is the LPDA-12 antenna sold separately?

Not in our shop at the moment. The filter and the LPDA-12 are supplied with this kit.
